Description

The name of this plant has changed over time, from Cedrela toona to Tonna australis and is now known as Toona ciliata.

Toona ciliata, commonly known as cedar wood or Australian red cedar, is a species of tree native to eastern Australia and parts of Southeast Asia. It is a valuable timber tree known for its reddish wood, which is highly prized for its durability, straight grain, and attractive appearance. Here are some of its uses and properties:

  • Medicinal Uses: In traditional medicine systems, various parts of the cedar wood tree have been used to treat ailments such as rheumatism, skin conditions, and gastrointestinal issues. However, scientific evidence supporting these uses is limited, and caution should be exercised when using it for medicinal purposes.
  • Metaphysical Properties: In some belief systems, certain trees, including cedar, are believed to possess metaphysical properties. Cedar is often associated with purification, protection, and healing. It’s believed to cleanse negative energy, promote balance and harmony, and enhance spiritual awareness. Cedar wood is sometimes used in rituals, ceremonies, and meditation practices for these purposes.

Cedar wood cleanses negative energy, but more in a freshness type of way. It really influences the good energy to flow around you and takes away the staleness of negative energy. If you are working in ritual, you would use cedar to drive away the old ancestral negative energy and bring in the new pathways or songlines of your bloodline.

  • Element: Fire
  • Planet: Sun
  • Energy Source: Masculine and deeply expressive.
  • Astrological connection: Leo
  • Chakra Associations: Root, Sacral, Third-eye, and Crown
  • Magical properties: ancestral cleansing, family songline regeneration, money and deeply for renewal of ancestral love and reconnection.

Many years ago, cedar was hung in the home to protect it against lightning strikes. It was used to carve a three-pronged stick and placed near the doors of the home to ward off all evil. It was kept in the wallet to bring money and to connect to the ancestral damaged, burnt while on journeys. It also helps to create new regenerative songlines of love for you and your family, removing the ancestral damage and bringing back the song of love.

How to burn

Are you wondering how to burn Cedar stick as incense, in order to smudge or simply enjoy its aroma? Hold a piece of wood slightly upside down and light the tip until there is a small flame. After 1 minute, blow it out so only smoke is produced. Place it on an angle embers-down in a fireproof bowl in a way that will allow it to continue burning and gently blow on the embers when needed. This is called smudging. It may need to be re-lit several times so it will continue to release its essential oils and energetic properties. Some prefer to keep small rocks in a fireproof bowl and the put the embers into the rock bed in order to put it out when finished. The stick can be reused several times until it is all gone. The aroma is similar to tree resin.

Of course! Here’s a suggested ritual or meditation using cedar wood to remove old ancestral damage and regenerate the songlines of love back into the ancestral line:
